Practicing Peace in Times of War
A Spirituality, Nonfiction, Philosophy book. When you open yourself to the continually changing, impermanent, dynamic nature of your own being and of reality,...
With war and violence flaring all over the world, many of us are left feeling vulnerable and utterly helpless. In this book Pema Chdrön draws on Buddhist teachings to explore the origins of aggression, hatred, and war, explaining that they lie nowhere but within our own hearts and minds. She goes on to explain that the way in which we as individuals respond to challenges in our everyday lives can either perpetuate a culture of violence or create a new culture of compassion. "War and peace begin in the hearts of individuals," declares Pema Chödrön at the opening of this inspiring and accessible book. She goes on to offer practical techniques any of us can use to work for peace in our own lives, at the level of our habits of thought and action. It's never too late, she tells us, to look within and discover a new way of living and transform not only our personal lives but our whole world.

Go Pema, once again, wisely soothing the souls of our world while giving applicable, easy-to-understand lessons of peace and love. This is a short book loaded with brilliance and it's easy to pick up occasionally and read a page or 2 for inspiration or comfort. It's kind of like the cliff-notes to all of her other books combined! A Another stellar read by Chodron; this slim volume deals with the difficultes in practicing peace in times of upheaval; while the title at hand does bring to mind the Iraq war, it also deals with anger and stress. i.e., if I get angry at a foul commute, that is not going to help the situation. I love Pema Chodron. When an old culture is dying, the new culture is created by those people who are not afraid to be insecure. Rudolph Bahro The only way out is through Carl Jung. The Wisdom of Insecurity Alan Watts. Teaching on softening to aggression, not biting the hook, pausing and letting the pain pierce your heart.
